Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Dumbbells Review
So you’re looking to upgrade your dumbbells or maybe even invest in your first set? Either way the Ironmaster Quick-Lock’s are great for a first buy or an upgrade. Now the Ironmaster’s can range from 5lbs all the way up to 165lbs which is a huge amount for a single dumbbell! It’s probably best I mention now, that to get up to the 165lbs you will need to buy an add-on kit. So don’t worry if you can’t lift that because you don’t have to pay too. So no wasting money on weights you be using straight away.
There are 2 options for buying at first, there’s the 4-45lbs or the 5-75lbs set. The 5-75lbs does come with a stand which is a bonus. Both sets adjust in 2.5lbs increments and the weight is per dumbbell! Many dumbbells will advertise as a 50lb set, meaning each dumbbell is 25lbs, but here each dumbbell is either 45lbs or 75lbs, or even if you buy the add-on for the 75lbs then it’s 120lbs per dumbbell.
Something that’s great about these dumbbells are that you can also pick up a Kettlebell handle where you can add your weights. Not only that fat gripz fit perfectly on the handle which can offer you a wider grip. While I’m on the topic of related accessories then if you’re a brand lover you can also pick up an Ironmaster bench here.
How does the quick-lock system work?
So this is probably one of the most simple systems out there, and there’s no reasons to over complicate it either. To change the weights you turn the metal lock to the ‘OPEN’ position and then it will slide off releasing the weights. The small turn will align the internal notches releasing the lock, and once it’s turned back to the ‘LOCK’ then it’s firmly locked into place.
“These are the most secure and rattle free adjustable dumbbells I have ever used. There is virtually no rattle even after your set.”
What makes these different?
To start lets compare these too other adjustable dumbbells. If you take the Bowflex SelectTech’s or the Power-Pak’s then the main thing is that these dumbbells aren’t huge in length. They adjust with the weight you use, which makes them much more practical. You don’t want to be carrying around a 16 inch dumbbell for a 20lbs weight. Also the handy square shape means these are easily put down on any surface and they don’t require a plastic holder.
The most similar product to these is the PowerBlock’s. So if you’re not in love with the Ironmasters’ but you do love the idea, then you may want to check them ones out.
The dumbbell dimensions are just 6.5″ x 6.5″ x 14.5″ long at the 75lb size and just 9″ long at 20lbs size. Handle grip diameter is 1.25″ and there is 6.5″ grip width inside.
So the Ironmaster Quick Lock’s defiantly are a durable set of dumbbells, they solid construction means I highly doubt you’ll be damaging them anytime soon. However it’s not recommended to try it! The weights are very secure, and have no clanking like some other dumbbells! Another great feature which you don’t get with the PowerBlocks is that you can have different weights on each side, which is very useful for some exercises. The Ironmaster’s come with a lifetime warranty which is great, and always a reassuring thing to hear when it comes to build quality of the product.
However unlike the name Quick Lock, these aren’t the quickest set of adjustable dumbbells out there! And as they don’t have the a holder you do have to organize the plates yourself somewhere. However if you do purchase the 75lbs set then you will get the stand. And the great selection of accessories for these is a big selling point. The dumbbells do have a knurled steel grip which is great, and as mentioned before perfect size for some fat gripz. So if you’re interested in a pair then you can get them from amazon.com.
